A fede ring is a ring in which two hands clasp, as if in friendship or love. The design was used in anceint Rome and maybe maybe earlier. It became prominent in the medieval period, from the 12th century onward through to the 17th. The name "fede" is from the Italian phrase mani in fede ("hands clasped in faith").
