A Romano British duck brooch from the edge of the fens in Suffolk. It is thought to date from the late 1st or 2nd century.
The duck is hollow, with a sturdy pin. The enamelling is done with coloured resins to simulate the glass enamel from the original.
Zoomorphic brooches of this era are thought to reflect some aspect of the wearer. Waterfowl are thought to represent honesty, simplicity or resourcefulness.
Available in Bronze. 31mm long x 21mm wide. The duck (without pin) is 25mm high.
