Tin plated brass buckle from Grave 2 at Cumwhitton.
The buckle is quite thick and has engraved lines all the way around. It has a long buckle plate (6cm) with ring and dot patterns cut in to it. The plate is held with 4 boss capped rivets (untinned brass). The boss capped rivets are a typical feature of fittings from the north west.
The strap end is quite a hefty piece of a type "E" Aspatria type (7cm long) and comes with standard brass rivets.
The original belt was found with seal fur between the sides of the buckle plate , suggesting a possible seal skin belt.
They belt set will fit a 1 inch belt.
