Late 9th century Saxon ring made up of 4 round and 4 lozenge sections. The round areas are filled with letters that spell out the name Ahlstan and the lozenge sections have animals in the Trewhiddle style. The original is in gold and is part of the V and A collection. As this ring has a continuous design it can't be resized, so is only suitable for sizes R to S. If you need a larger size just contact me and i will see what i can do.
The ring is 8mm wide and is available in various options. The brass and silver options are oxidised to bring out the design and blacken the areas that were in niello from the original.
